  7.    Yet another script for AmIRC :) But a handy one! Allows AltaVista to be
  8. searched and the results displayed in the current AmIRC window OR in a CLI. 
  9. I have no idea if this kinda script has been done before... but here's my 
  10. version anyway if it has :)

  13. Installation & Configuration
  14. ----------------------------

  16. 1.  Open AVSearch in your text editor and edit any neccesary lines to point to 
  17.     where your HttpResume executable resides. Change the AVSTempFile location 
  18.     if you like.
  19.  
  20. 2.  Edit the Four Info Fields to show however much info from AltaVista you would
  21.     like to be displayed in AmIRC. The fields are pretty self explanitory. Just 
  22.     change them to "Y" or "N" and see what search result info they show in AmIRC.
  23.     By default, all fields are off ("N"), but the result URLs will always show in
  24.     AmIRC.
  25.  
  26. 3.  Change the Hits Field to the number of results you want to be shown. Range is
  27.     between 1 to 10 hits. Anything outside this range will not be allowed.

  29. 4.  Copy the edited script to Amirc:Rexx
  30.  
  31. 5.  Make an alias in AmIRC:  /alias /AV /RX AVSearch %p
  32.  
  33.     If you also want to use it in the CLI, add this line to your startup-sequence 
  34.     AFTER the AmIRC path assign:  Alias AVS "RX AmIRC:Rexx/AVSearch.Amirx"

  37. Usage
  38. -----

  40. Amirc: /AV <Search Keywords>
  41. Shell: AVS <Search Keywords>
  42.  
  43. Search results return in approximately the same time it takes to retrieve the 
  44. same search results in a regular browser. Some searches may take longer due to
  45. the search keywords used and the number of web pages altavista finds ;-)
  46.  
  47.    Once the results are downloaded, they will be displayed in the AmIRC window.
  48. If no results were found, AVSearch will notify you of this.

  50. Bugs
  51. ----

  53.    This was done as a quickie request for someone in under an hour, so there's
  54. likely to be plenty of bugs. One I found that I think is fixed now was in sending
  55. the referer info thru httpresume. Altavista would refuse to return the query after
  56. much testing, but would load the identical url fine in a browser.
